Clinical and Laboratory Haematologist

Professor Prahlad Ho is a laboratory and clinical haematologist who went through most of his training at Northern Health, commencing as an intern in 2006.  He is Chief Medical Officer and Divisional Director of Diagnostic Services  at Northern Health. Prahlad was the Director of Clinical Haematology at Northern Health and was instrumental in expanding the Thrombosis Service. He was also the inaugural Director of Northern Pathology Victoria and previously also headed Cancer Services at Northern Health, including setting up their cancer clinical trial unit.

Prahlad is the ex-Treasurer of the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia and New Zealand (THANZ) and the Vice-President of the Australian/New Zealand chapter of International Union of Angiology.

Prahlad is actively involved in clinical and laboratory research and has published in multiple international peer-reviewed journals. He heads the Northern Clinical Diagnostic and Thombovascular Centre (NECTAR) and is the Principal Investigator in numerous clinical trials. He completed his PhD through the University of Melbourne under a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC)/Heart Foundation scholarship. He is currently an adjunct Professor at the School of Health and Biomedical Sciences, RMIT University and holds honorary positions at Monash University as well at the University of Melbourne.

“Dr Ho is experienced in managing a wide range of malignant and non-malignant blood disorders. In particular, he has a special interest in the management of thrombosis, including DVT/PE, anticoagulation therapy, thrombophilia advice/testing and complex cardiovascular disorders. His specific interest is investigating new biomarkers of thrombosis, specifically global coagulation assays.”
